The layout of the historic district of Bischofsheim is circular, in the form of the so-called "Fränkischer Rundling". The ongoing boundary disputes between the abbots of Fulda and the bishops of Würzburg were probably the main reason why Bischofsheim was fortified. Take a leisurely walk on the historic district circuit or the wooden sculpture walkabout and explore romantic and nostalgic spots, along the historic town wall for example, and go on an art-historical discovery tour.
Bischofsheim’s landmark, the so-called “Zentturm”, the late Romanesque town tower built in the 13th century, the historic bursary and the oldest wood carving school in Germany as well as numerous wood carvings everywhere are also treats this very special town has to offer.
